“Look at me. Please?” His quiet voice had her dragging her unwilling gaze up to look at him.
“You are one of the most amazing people I know . Anybody else would have gone to pieces after what you’ve been through in the last few days. You’ve held it together and you’ve done it with grace and dignity. When I look at you, I can’t look away. You’re kind, compassionate, caring and have a wicked sense of humour. Every single one of us on the team is better for having known you for these few days. Please don’t ever doubt that. Or doubt yourself. You are so much more than that man’s rabid rantings.”

“Yeah, if.” Smiling sadly, she lifted a hand to stroke his cheek once before standing, forcing him to rise to his feet too. They stared at each other in silence for a minute more before he leant forward and pressed one last soft kiss to her forehead. Stepping back, he turned on his heel and left without another word. There was nothing left to say.
